One of my customers is in central Louisiana. Being there poses a little challenge to my health. On the one hand, the food is incredibly good. So good that I still make some of it at home. The portion sizes … Continue reading Tuesday Photo Challenge – Reflection
In the centre of Louisiana, just down the road from the dozens of chemical plants that give the region the nickname “Cancer Alley” lies the little town of Gonzales. Before Gonzales was known for its high school football team or the long chains of organic molecules that pay many people’s mortgages, it was known for something else:
India has its biryani, Spain has its paella, and Louisiana has jambalaya. Continue reading Pastalaya for Dinner
This week’s theme over at Nancy Merrill Photography is “From Above“. There is something special about the perspective that being above it all gives us – no matter where we are. We start close to home – from outside our … Continue reading Photo a Week Challenge: From Above
This week in Cee’s Which Way challenge, I decided to go with signs – particularly ones that made me laugh or think a little. Here are a few I think you’ll enjoy also: No really, there are drive-through alcoholic … Continue reading Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge – July 13, 2018 – Biking my Walk
I wrote this for a class but I liked it so much I am sharing it with you also: The humid Louisiana air makes my white dress shirt stick to me. A chemical smell a little reminiscent of freshly cut … Continue reading Crawfish Dinner
Over the past several years, my biggest customer has been in Louisiana. This has resulted in my going down there fairly often. In my busiest year, 2016, I spent 120 days in Louisiana – enough time that when we applied for Canadian citizenship last year the government asked for me to get an FBI background check done. On one of my longest stretches … Continue reading Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge – May 27, 2018 – See Ya Later!
What a week it’s been. Monday morning I woke bright and early at 3:30 AM and made my way to the airport for a flight to Louisiana. Leaving that early made a difference. Not only did I get from the … Continue reading Almost home!
Last night I worked late – until almost 9:00. The huge plant I work at was almost abandoned. As I left the developed area and entered a field, I had to stop the car. A deer was in the road … Continue reading Moments: Leaving Work Late
It’s never good to sit alone all day in a hotel room on a business trip and so I made a plan yesterday to get out and do something and knock a few errands off as well. And so it was that I rode up to Baton Rouge. First stop: time to check out Southfin Southern Poke. For those of you not familiar, Poke bowls are a wonderfully delicious thing that seems to have originated in Hawaii (but looks a lot like hwe dup bap from Korea. The basic idea is this: take a base of rice, put some … Continue reading Sunday in Louisiana
I slept in a little bit this morning – all the way to 6:00 which is 7:00 AM back home and made my way downstairs to breakfast and coffee. As an aside, you know you traveled too much over the … Continue reading A Saturday Outing in Louisiana
