I’m very happy with my progress on the Doctors Without Borders fundraiser. So far people have donated $1,750 to help with COVID-19 response activities around the world. And as promised, because I reached $1,500, I’ve done Hindi Karaoke.
Finding the right song was hard. My range tends to be on the lower side so some of the classics like Mohammed Rafi or Kishore Kumar, while great, often go above my range. One person who is well within my range, though, is Amitabh Bachchan. An added bonus is that whether speaking or singing, I find him very easy to understand as he speaks very clearly.
I made my first trip to India in 2016, a year after the movie Shamitabh came out. Sage and I both loved it a lot and one of the songs, Piddly Si Baatein really stuck with me. This song was playing in the Delhi airport when I arrived, and as a result it stuck in my head the entire trip.
Here’s the original song:
And here, after a lot of practice, is my version:
Thanks to Daegan for having the ideas of how to match the video in style and editing. You’ll notice that I am not in my bathroom as Amitabh Bachchan is. For those who know the video it would make sense. For those who didn’t, it might look extremely strange. So we found something else for me to do.
I am closing in on my goal of $2,000 at which point I will get my hair cut and dyed blue like Sage in the photo below.

If you can donate even a small amount to Doctors Without Borders it will be a big help. Now more than any time in history we need front line workers all throughout the world.

WOW, Todd! Fantastic Karaoke. You are doing a great job. Well done! ❤
Thanks! I don’t often sing – even alone so even the English karaoke a while back pushed my limits. Hindi karaoke was even harder. I’m glad I did it though – and glad you enjoyed it 🙂
You sound really good! Great job…👍
Thanks so much! It was pretty difficult but I’m happy with the final result.
Nice to know the full story of why you chose this song, after I just saw the video on Instagram a little while ago. Karaoke for a noble cause makes it even better. Waiting for the hair to be matched with sage now. 🙂
Me too! Speaking of hair matching I was really regretting getting the haircut recently. I needed more hair to properly match the video.
